Modern

Anchor 1

Our modern classes focus on developing strong technical dancers, training in all relevant kick, turn and jump techniques, as well as combos and choreography. Modern Dance is a big umbrella under which various dance styles fall – each of which we incorporate in our classes - Jazz, Modern, Show Dance, Musical Theatre, Contemporary and Lyrical dance. iMove Dance Academy follows the S.A.B.O.D syllabus, established in 1935. This syllabus creatively incorporates all the above mentioned styles and grants the dancer an opportunity to get a taste of each style. The S.A.B.O.D syllabus is one of the very few Modern dance syllabi in South Africa that is internationally recognised. SABOD is also affiliated with IDO and grants dancers the opportunity to qualify for National and Protea colours and compete internationally. It is strongly recommended that dancers attend two classes per week. If dancers choose to attend one class per week, they will however not be able to participate in the formal S.A.B.O.D exams, but will be included in the studio assessments.

Acrobatics

Acrobatics is a genre of dance which seamlessly fuses elements of gymnastic tricks, flexibility, contortion, balancing, tumbling, and dance technique. Students learn acrobatic tricks such as handstands, cartwheels, chest stands, elbow stands, walkovers and tumbling lines. Acro is an especially challenging dance style for dancers as it requires them to be trained in both dance and acrobatic skills. Acro dancers must be in excellent physical condition as Acro is a physically demanding activity. iMove Dance Academy follows both the Acrobatic Arts & AFSA syllabus.

Both these syllabuses are recognised all internationally.

Anchor 3

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of all dance forms and will maximise technique and longevity in a career of dance. It provides grace, poise, and technique that is a necessity for all young, aspiring dancers. Students are taught proper body placement, body alignment, barre and centre floor work, along with across the floor combination. We are a Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) registered studio. The RAD is an international membership body, teacher education provider and awarding organisation in dance. This body of dance was established in 1920 as the 'Association of Operatic Dancing of Great Britain.

Dance Tumbling

Dance Tumbling classes are presented at the Dance Studio.

These classes are designed to focus on tumbling skills for dancers to incorporate into their other dance styles and master these skills safely.

The following skills are a pre-requisite to join these classes:

Intermediate class: Dancers should be comfortably be able to do a cartwheel, bend-over, back limber, backbend and bridge recovery.

The focus in these classes will be to master a side aerial and standing back handspring. As well as other tumbling skills. This class will be divided into two age groups.

Advanced class: Dancers must be able to comfortably do a side aerial and standing back handspring.

The focus in this class will be to master multiple back handsprings, back tucks, back layouts and different variations of front and side aerials.

Anchor 5

Tiny Tribe

Tiny Tribe is our unique pre-school program created especially for our 3-4 (turning 4 and 5 years old when starting) year olds. This engaging program helps your petite dancer learn age appropriate dance steps, movement routine basics and proper terminology in a creative, lively and fun setting.

This program is offered to tiny ballerinas and modern dancers.

Anchor 6

Acro Sport

Acrobats who show potential and increased commitment has the opportunity to participate in our Acro-Sport series where North Gauteng colours can be earned. They stand a chance to compete at Regionals and if they qualify at Nationals.

In order to reach their full potential, it is strongly recommended that student who participate in acro sport do their acro sport class as well as the normal acro class per week.

Kindly note that the acro sport program is NOT part of the studio show

or any formal assessments and exams.
